The link between Byzantium and Iconography is of a sacred nature. In accordance with Orthodox theology, icons are characterized as ‘windows into heaven and mirrors of the soul.'As St. John of Kronstadt says, “Icons in churches and houses are necessary because they remind us of the immortality of the saints; that they live unto Him, (Lk.20:38) that in God they see, hear and help us.”

The goal of “Byzantio” is to showcase the beauty of traditional byzantine iconography by offering a collection of icons that are created using classical techniques. We specialize in high-quality icons painted on wooden panels using egg tempera (which is a mixture of natural pigments, egg yolk and vinegar) in order to achieve a level of craftsmanship that is identified with the ancient traditions of orthodox iconography.

We ensure the quality of the art by working closely with local iconographers who have an abundance of experience and training. Each icon is uniquely created, remaining true to the theological standard while also leaving room for the hagiographer to impart their own artistic style. "Byzantio" is committed to the preservation of this style of iconography - our intention is to make it more widely available to people who have an appreciation for Orthodox tradition, art, and theology.
